September 24/2026

‎As usual, I was impressed by His Majesty King Abdullah’s speech yesterday at the United Nations, especially by the strength of its linguistic structure, the smoothness of his pronunciation, and the eloquence of the political proposition that permeated its joints. We are facing a political document drafted with advanced critical awareness that openly addresses the dilemma of “double standards”. If we view Norman Fairclough’s approach through Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), it is clear how these linguistic choices have shifted from mere declarative tools to living tools that dismantle and challenge hegemony. “Forced displacement” of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. Since the fundamental shift lies primarily in a tone of determination, this is clearly embodied in the royal dictum: “Military power cannot build peace,” wording that moves Jordanian diplomacy from its traditional flexibility toward a definitive demarcation of national security red lines.‎

‎Of course, this textual transformation does not derive its legitimacy from a vacuum, but from intensive “intertextuality” with the conventions of international law, a shrewd strategy aimed at besieging the international community with the same legal tools it uses in the media. Through this systematic rhetorical exercise, the king reshapes the architecture of “power relations”; here, Jordan does not speak in the logic of weakness or appeal, but instead places major capitals before the guillotine of “moral accountability” in the face of their silence. In this case, the monarchy did not stop at the borders of transient political advocacy but became a tool to dismantle the structure of international silence (deconstructing it), leading to a firm affirmation that the right of peoples to self-determination is an “inalienable right.” In this regard, the sovereign dimensions of this discourse are complete, as it is no longer just a matter of defending historical constants, but a strategic repositioning of Jordan as a solid regional player in the region, which depends on firmness and absolute sovereignty, especially when it openly and unequivocally declares: “Any threat to our borders and waters is a threat to our national security.”‎

‎Khader Tawfiq Khader‎

‎Writer and academic‎

‎The Semiotics of the Confrontation: The Speech of His Majesty King Abdullah II as a Model‎ ‎By Prof. Dr. Khader Tawfiq Khader – Gaza ‎ Translated from Arabic by Abou Carolina.
