في تطور لافت يعكس تحوّلاً جذرياً في السياسة الأمريكية تجاه القضية الفلسطينية، أدلى السفير الأمريكي لدى إسرائيل، مايك هاكابي، بتصريحات غير مسبوقة أعلن فيها أن إقامة دولة فلسطينية لم تعد هدفاً للولايات المتحدة. هذه التصريحات التي وُصفت على نطاق واسع بأنها خرق دبلوماسي واستفزاز سياسي، تفتح الباب على مصراعيه أمام تساؤلات كبرى حول مستقبل حل الدولتين ومكانة الولايات المتحدة كوسيط في عملية السلام.

لحظة فارقة أم بداية النهاية؟ … إن تصريحات هاكابي ليست مجرد انزلاق لغوي أو رأي شخصي، بل تعبّر عن توجه رسمي مقلق يعيد صياغة الموقف الأمريكي من القضية الفلسطينية. في حال لم تُواجه هذه التصريحات بموقف دولي حازم، فقد تشكّل مقدمة فعلية لتصفية مشروع الدولة الفلسطينية، وتُدخل المنطقة في مرحلة جديدة من الصراع المفتوح، لا مكان فيها لتسويات عادلة أو حلول سياسية متوازنة.
إن الصمت على مثل هذه التصريحات، أو التعامل معها كأمر واقع، لن يؤدي إلا إلى ترسيخ الاحتلال وتكريس سياسة الإقصاء، وهو ما ستكون له كلفة سياسية وأخلاقية باهظة، ليس على الفلسطينيين وحدهم، بل على النظام الدولي بأسره.

In a striking development that reflects a fundamental shift in U.S. policy toward the Palestinian cause, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee made unprecedented statements declaring that the establishment of a Palestinian state is no longer a goal for the United States. Widely described as a diplomatic breach and political provocation, these remarks raise serious questions about the future of the two-state solution and the credibility of the United States as a peace mediator.
The question that arises is whether these statements by the American ambassador represent a withdrawal from the historical solution, as reflected in his interview with Bloomberg, where Huckabee stated:
> “I don’t think a Palestinian state is a realistic proposition, and it may never happen in our lifetime.”
Ambassador Huckabee didn’t stop there; he went further by rejecting the use of the term “West Bank,” preferring instead to refer to the area by its biblical name, “Judea and Samaria.” He also hinted at the possibility of a Palestinian state elsewhere—without specifying where or how. By international diplomatic standards, this statement constitutes a clear abandonment of the two-state solution, which has for decades been the cornerstone of the official U.S. stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Huckabee’s remarks indicate an ideological shift in Washington’s rhetoric—one that goes beyond conventional political considerations and openly adopts the narrative of the Israeli far-right. Denying the occupation and using religious-political Israeli terminology instead of internationally recognized designations marks a dangerous diplomatic deviation. Furthermore, Huckabee’s comments cannot be separated from the recent decision to close the U.S. Office of Palestinian Affairs in Jerusalem, widely seen as another step aimed at weakening Palestinian political representation in the U.S. diplomatic framework.
The ambassador’s remarks were met with widespread condemnation across Palestinian, Arab, regional, and international circles. Palestinian officials labeled the statements “provocative and hostile,” while European diplomats expressed “deep concern” over this policy shift, reiterating that the two-state solution remains the only internationally accepted path to resolving the conflict.

A Defining Moment or the Beginning of the End?
Huckabee’s statements are not a mere verbal slip or personal opinion; they signify an alarming official orientation that is reshaping the American position on the Palestinian issue. If these statements are not met with a firm international response, they may serve as a prelude to the actual dismantling of the Palestinian state project and usher in a new phase of open-ended conflict—one in which there is no room for fair settlements or balanced political solutions.
Remaining silent or treating such statements as a political fait accompli will only entrench the occupation and cement policies of exclusion. The cost will be high—politically and morally—not just for the Palestinians, but for the integrity of the international order as a whole.
