An Urgent Appeal to Release a Political Prisoner in Iraq.

Prisoners of war should be released after the war ends, not tortured or mistreated, and Medical treatment should be available. These are fundamental requirements that should be adhered to by all parties. Any violation should be punishable by law. Unfortunately, the prisoners in Iraq did not meet these fundamental requirements; some were executed with a kangaroo trial, their lawyers were not allowed to attend, and some were assassinated as defense lawyers of President Saddam Hussein. Khamis al-Obeidi was abducted from his house and killed on June 26, 2006. He was 39 years old and the father of three children. Among the political prisoners in Iraq is Abdulghani Abdulghaffour Al-Ani, who is 80 years man suffering from various illnesses, like the rest of the political prisoners captured by the American invaders and surrendered later on to the Iraqi sectarian government to be tortured and abused, with no healthcare whatsoever. Recently, I spoke with his son, and he told me about his miserable health and psychological status. Mr. Abdulghani Abdulghaffour Alani is now eighty years old and is in one of the prisons of Baghdad, where he has now spent more than twenty-one years moving between the prisons of the American and Iraqi forces in many provinces and suffers from strokes, diabetes, high blood pressure, and the loss of one of his eyes due to medical negligence, which caused him to hinder his movement to do the daily needs that require the presence of someone to help him to do so We often demanded that he be released so that he could live the rest of his life among his family. We appealed to human rights organizations in the Arab world, Europe, and America, but we did not receive an answer; in addition to appealing to the Iraqi government, we demanded their release in the name of humanity. Being old and ravaged by aging diseases. The family of the political prisoner appeals to those who care and urges individuals and organizations to launch a campaign to help release Mr.Alani and others who suffered in captivity for supporting their people and serving Iraq honorably. Let us join hands to help this captive and the rest of the prisoners to be released and spend the rest of their lives with their families, their children, and grandchildren.
