A statement by The Arab Socialist Baath Party. Sudan
Spotlight on Sudan.
March 15. 2024
The departure of the Arab Socialist Baath Party from the Alliance of Freedom and Forces of Change paved the way for reconciliation and legitimized the October 25 coup.
Overthrowing the coup, removing its effects, and dismantling the system of the defunct salvation regime are prerequisites for building a sustainable democratic system. We are committed to working with the masses of our people and their living forces to create a new alliance to overthrow the October 25 coup by escalating the uprising to reach a political strike and civil disobedience. We call for the completion of building the broadest popular front for democracy and change.
O masses of our struggling people:
The Arab Socialist Baath Party, since the first day of the coup of the National Islamic Front against the pluralistic democratic system on June 30, 1989, until its political fall on April 11, 2019, has remained firm and clear in its anti-coup positions, just as it remained committed to working with national and democratic forces whenever they met with it in the correct national position, to achieve the demands of the masses wherever they are. Despite the many twists and turns, the Baath Party has maintained this consistent national approach. The regime and the opposition, which faced the march of the national struggle for decades with the lean salvation regime, represented clear separation stations between it and others. This happened when the opposition center was transferred abroad in March 1992 by parties in the National Democratic Rally different from what was stipulated in the charter and regulations of the assembly signed in October 1989, which led at the Asmara Conference to the adoption of self-determination (1995), the Naivasha agreements of 2005, Cairo and Jeddah framework, which involved many in the institutions of the former regime, and when marketing the idea of soft landing after the uprising of September 2013, and others. In all these developments, the Baath Party maintained its firm position among the masses, who continued their struggles until April 2019.
With the same approach on which the aforementioned national positions of the Baath were founded, the Baath has been active and interactive with the forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change since January 2019, as the broadest national umbrella against the authoritarian June 30 regime, by the principles and objectives summarized by the glorious December 2018 revolution in overthrowing the government, dismantling its tentacles from the joints of the state, and strengthening national unity by removing the causes of zonal and regional injustice and removing the effects of wars. And employing the country’s economic resources and socially and geographically balanced development for the benefit of the broader sector of The masses of the people and their productive forces, support and provide education and health, upgrade infrastructure and services, and adopt a balanced foreign policy based on respect for the independence of the country’s national decision and sovereignty, achieve justice and the rule of law and build a democratic system.
However, the coup of October 25, 2021, against the transitional authority represented a significant setback for the democratic transformation process that the masses of the Sudanese people in the capital, states, cities, and countryside worshipped, with the lives of martyrs, the blood of the wounded and injured, the sufferings of the displaced and refugees, and countless and priceless sacrifices.
Thus, the position of the various national and democratic forces continued rejecting and resisting this coup, which had stained its hands since its first day with the blood of revolutionaries. It spread division and strife among the components of the people, working with all his forces to defeat the revolution and backfire on its slogans and achievements by restoring the remnants of the former regime to power and re-empowering them economically, and targeting the active forces of the revolution, whether in freedom and change, or the brave resistance committees, or the Committee for the removal of empowerment, or trade union committees, professional and democratic unions, women’s bodies, and families Martyrs and detainees. The people’s livelihood is narrowed by market lawlessness, multiple levies, the prosecution of small earners, traders, and producers with heavy taxes, and the high rates of smuggling of gold and other national products.
The masses’ aspirations were also the goals of the revolutionary December uprising. The goals of the revolutionary December uprising were to overthrow the apostles, remove their policies, and cancel their decisions and procedures, as the only way to resume the march of the glorious December revolution with its slogans and goals stained with the blood of martyrs, the injured and the missing, sacrifices,s and suffering.
masses and forces of the revolutionary uprising:
The signing of what was known as the framework agreement on December 5, 2022, with the leaders of the coup of October 25, 2021, led to the legitimization and prolongation of the coup and to the confusion of the political scene and weakened the unity of the forces of the December revolution. The participation of the majority of the forces of freedom and change in signing the framework agreement with the putschists contradicts the primary objectives and principles for which this broad alliance was established. This empties it of its revolutionary content after siding with the putschists, and necessarily, It is no longer the appropriate framework to mobilize and organize the broadest masses of our people in the struggle against the forces of tyranny and corruption.
Baath Party has done its best in vain with the parties in Freedom and Change to prevent this strategic mistake, and this was the choice of their majority, which led us to separate from them and align ourselves with the living forces in our people to continue the tireless and patient struggle on the road to overthrowing the coup and getting our country out of the comprehensive and worsening national crisis.
Believing in collective action to overthrow the coup and get our country out of the national crisis, our efforts will focus on the priority of building the broad Popular Front for Democracy and Change to unify and coordinate the efforts and energies of political and social forces in the peaceful revolutionary movement to escalate the uprising leading to political strike and civil disobedience.
