 Campaign to defend the heroic prisoner Abdul Ghani Abdul Ghafoor

  Humanitarian Statement on the Health Status of Former Minister Abdel Ghani Abdel Ghafoor Falih Al-Ani

On the seventeenth anniversary of the death sentence of Abdul Ghani Abdul Ghafoor Falih Al-Ani, his family is making an urgent humanitarian appeal to the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and all relevant parties to demand consideration of his critical humanitarian and health situation.

During the pre-2003 period, Abdul Ghafoor held purely civilian positions in the Iraqi state, including the Ministries of Endowments and Religious Affairs and of Culture and Information, and did not have any military or security positions. Today, 23 years after his detention and exceeding the age of 81, he is facing a severe health condition, as he suffers from chronic diseases. During his arrest, he suffered five strokes, which led to the loss of one of his eyes and a continuous deterioration in his health condition.

His continued detention under these conditions puts his life at significant risk and makes humanitarian intervention an urgent necessity imposed by the health and humanitarian considerations emphasized by international conventions.

Accordingly, his family demands that his file be opened from a purely humanitarian perspective, and that his release be considered for humanitarian reasons that guarantee him the right to health care and a dignified life, and are in line with principles that respect human rights and take into account the conditions of the elderly and the sick.

We want to call on international bodies and all competent authorities to take the necessary urgent measures to preserve his life, and we hope this appeal will resonate with the consciences and institutions concerned.
