Israel is a costly strategic burden for America and the West!
Dr. Abdullah Khalifa Al-Shayji Professor in the Department of Political Science, Kuwait University
Since the Truman administration in the United States of America recognized as the first country in the world system the establishment of the so-called “State of Israel” in 1948, the United States has been the first sponsor, defender, and advocate of its regional proxy, the occupation regime, and its advanced base, even if it disagreed and challenged the world on its own. The United States of America proves that in word and deed, it is the primary sponsor, financier, armed, and supporter of all Israeli policies, wars, occupation, and abuse of the Palestinians. America does not care about the contradictions of its rhetoric and positions. With their Nazi ideology and practices, Jews realized how to control the reins of the American political system, with open immigration since the Holocaust in World War II from Nazi camps from Eastern Europe to America. The Jews mastered how the shoulder was eaten and the mechanism by which they could control the reins of the regimes in the West. With their Zionist mentality, they succeeded in establishing the occupation entity with a bloody gradation and settlement expansion in Palestine, with British, American, and Western support, and the German guilt complex that continues to pay the bills by submitting to the excesses and brutality of the Zionist occupation. Despite their limited number and proportion to the population of the United States of America, where they do not exceed 6 million American Jews and 2 percent of the American people, they control the backbone of the American political system and decision-making centers: financial and cultural institutions, think tanks and media institutions, to terrify those who dare to criticize their policies and excesses. The United States used its veto power 44 times out of 84 times – in politicizing and supporting falsehood and aggression and marginalizing the role of the United Nations with a clear abuse of its veto to protect Israel from it 4 times since October 7, 2023 to refuse to stop the war on Gaza in support of the goals of the gelatinous war to eliminate Hamas, release prisoners and neutralize Gaza so that it does not remain a source of attacks on Israel and repeat another October 7. The Biden administration vetoed the consensus of the world and dropped a draft resolution granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations, despite the claim of successive US administrations to adhere to the two-state solution to end the state of conflict. In the middle of this month, we witnessed the participation of the coalition of the United States, Britain, France, and Jordan, in coordination with America’s Arab allies, the downing of most 330 Iranian drones and missiles (in the retaliatory strike on Israel’s assassination of leaders and advisers to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the Iranian consulate in Damascus) over Iraq, Syria, and Jordan before the Iranian missiles and drones reached their targets inside the entity! Israel remains the first country to receive more than $150 billion in U.S. financial and military aid since 1948. Last week, President Biden approved a law passed by a majority of members of the US House of Representatives and Senate with widespread, rare, and unlimited bipartisan support for Israel by allocating $ 26 billion, the most extensive aid package in the history of US-Israeli relations to support its war on Gaza, while allocating $ 1 billion in humanitarian aid to Gaza! This proves that the entire American system, including the presidency, Congress, and the American media, is lining up in support of the Israeli proxy despite the war of extermination, the martyrdom of 34,000 Palestinians, the wounding of 80,000 with weapons, and American support, and the preparation for the storming of Rafah! The United States of America proves that it is in word and deed – the first partner sponsoring, financing, arming, and supporting all of Israel’s policies, wars, occupation, and abuse of the Palestinians. What is remarkable is the alignment and collaboration of successive US administrations with Israel by supporting and covering up its crimes and transgressions, even against the United States. Israel killed 34 sailors and marines by deliberately bombing the American wire Liberty to cover up its crimes in the June 1967 war without America opening an investigation into the incident! But the apparent shift in the most famous of the seven Zionist genocidal wars on Gaza is to break the prestige of Israeli deterrence at the hands of the Palestinian resistance and Iran. In an awakening that deepens among the Arab, Western, and European generations, we witness this through speeches and attitudes on social networking sites and the million-strong demonstrations in the capitals and cities of Europe and America. Most importantly, the movement of sit-ins and protests in dozens of American universities from East to Center and West, which the American academic community has not witnessed since the Vietnam War – especially in elite universities that graduate future leaders and decision-makers, condemning and rejecting the crimes of Israel’s genocide on Gaza! There is no doubt that all this embarrasses Biden and his administration for their support contrary to their values, contradictory lectures, and double standards on the pillars and goals of his foreign policy by respecting justice and human rights that they pay lip service to by supporting Ukraine in the face of Russia’s war, by imposing sanctions and Russia’s boycott of its crimes. At the same time, Biden and European governments do not dare to impose sanctions on Israel’s crimes and massacres, mass graves, collective punishment, and Israeli ethnic cleansing openly against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank systematically and daily for more than 200 days! What morally drops America! Successive U.S. administrations have repeatedly reiterated the importance of a “special relationship with Israel.” Israel is indeed the colonial proxy of America and the West (with the imperialist settler occupation in the Middle East), and some in Washington go on to describe Israel as “the American aircraft carrier in the region”! President Reagan granted Israel the status of “a major non-NATO ally in 1987 in an upgrade to the strategic relationship, but Israel’s bullying, crimes, and wars did not serve America’s interests. On the contrary, its policies and extremism threatened America’s interests in the Middle East. Netanyahu boasts that he is the one who disrupted the two-state solution and continued settlement expansion and confiscation of Palestinian land in the West Bank, refused a truce in the Gaza war, and responded by non-escalation with Iran and Biden’s demands not to storm Rafah, and his refusal to increase aid to Gaza! Israel also did not support the United States’ wars on terrorism. Still, its policies contribute to the high level of Arab and Islamic widespread hostility to America, embarrass Washington’s Arab and Muslim allies, and raise the shares and popularity of Iran and its allies in the region to confront and challenge them alone, as Arabs and Muslims continued to bomb Israel with Iranian drones and missiles! Thus, America loses “winning the minds and hearts of the Arabs” and pays a heavy bill for appeasing Israel, which has turned from an agent with a strategic balance to a costly strategic burden!
